In our fast paced, ever changing and sometimes insecure world, children today, possibly face far more pressures and challenges than any age before.
More and more, we read about increasing delinquent behaviour, depression in children and even suicide caused by bullying, exams or other such pressures. Children, even in the foundation stages, often bear the brunt of the social, emotional and financial pressures of their parents or carers.
A child’s mental and emotional, as well as physical health, have become issues of the highest priority and it has become essential that children are equipped with the skills and strategies to cope in the demanding world they live in.
The Government’s recent Green Paper ‘Every Child Matters’ aims to provide a structured response to children’s needs: to protect them and maximise their potential. They also propose that, for effective protection, any intervention should be as early as possible.
The Stress Management and Relaxation Workshop for Children moves towards achieving this, addressing the following outcomes and will compliment and add to the Government’s S.E.A.L. project and any school Health education or P.H.S.E. programme that may be used.
It encourages the children to be aware of the physical, emotional and mental stressors in their life. It provides them with easy and fun strategies to promote relaxation and positive feelings, as well as techniques for anger management and much more. The strategies learnt, if practiced, are life skills and can be taken into adolescence and through to adulthood.
